ROSEMARY WREATH TOPIARY (A fragrant and attractive item when grown in terra cotta style pots.)
- Plant two cuttings of Mrs. Howard's Creeping in a 6" pot during the months of June or July. When the plants begin to trail, insert an 8" or 9" topiary wreath frame into the pot and loosely wrap the rosemary bud around the wire. Use a twist-tie to secure the terminal in place. Continue to wrap the tie until the wreath is closed at the top and then prune the terminal stem. Prune back any lateral branches on the wreath to one inch. Let the branches close to the pot grow to cover the soil. The first rosemary wreath will be saleable by early September. It will be necessary to trim for shape every 3 to 4 weeks.
ALTERNATIVE CROPPING (Provides an additional early Spring crop.)
- Plant perennial herbs into quart pots during August or September. In early November, as the plants begin to fill the pots, turn the heat back, but keep the plants from freezing. Sell the herbs as perennials in early Spring before the bedding plants.
